UTI Corporation Changes Name to Accellent; Leading Medical Device Outsource Manufacturing and Design Organization Re-Aligns to Focus on Customers’ Key Areas of Expertise. Company Announces Corporate Headquarters, Division Appointments.
COLLEGEVILLE, Penn., Jan. 11 /PRNewswire/ — UTI Corporation, a world leader in integrated outsource manufacturing services to medical device companies, announced today it has changed its name to Accellent Inc. In June, the company acquired Minneapolis-based MedSource Technologies, Inc., making the combined entity one of the world’s largest medical device outsource manufacturing, design and engineering organizations. Accellent’s headquarters will be located in the Boston area, while its Collegeville, Pa. facility will remain a key manufacturing center. The company employs more than 3,500 people in 20 specialized facilities in five countries.

The Endoscopy division, led by George Trutza — formerly of Surgicon Inc. and Tyco Healthcare & U.S. Surgical, designs, develops, manufactures and assembles implants and instruments used in minimally invasive surgeries and procedures. Under the executive leadership of Daniel Croteau — formerly with Booz Allen & Hamilton and General Electric, the Orthopaedic division develops, manufactures and assembles implants and instruments for the reconstructive, spinal, trauma, and sports medicine markets. Both divisions will be located in the Boston area.
Located in Minneapolis, the cardiology division will in the interim be led by Mr. Sparks until a dedicated general manager is appointed. This division designs, develops, manufactures and assembles implants and instruments for the cardiac rhythm management (CRM), interventional, radiology/cardiology, cardiac surgery and peripheral vascular markets.
